Picking Up Where the World Left off ... Sort of?

City Lights

As in my previous post I mentioned the world would move forward from this pandemic and normalcy would be resumed. We can certainly see that, in the manner in which the work force have since resumed their duties. The cogs of the economy have started turning again. Truth be told those cogs for some did not stop (myself included - more on that and amazing new products which are soon to launch later).

By and large most industries have begun to operate again with caution and with a renewed sense of vigor for hitting targets and milestones (yes they are concerned about their bottom lines as well). It is different than before though, all fat has been trimmed and the workforce has been directed to concentrate their efforts in areas that are most valued. As an example, all exploratory ventures by certain industries have been put on hold, indefinitely in some cases. Perhaps a short sighted move, as what this world does need is a large amount of innovation right now. This environment is one that has the perfect conditions for it.

So whats changed in the world?

Has their been any adoption of technology from companies then to change the manner in which they were performing tasks? Simply, yes. It has been a massive catalyst for change and in such a positive manner.

Let us take a look at a few examples shall we:

 - doctors offering virtual consultations (safer for everyone)

 - lawyers virtual courts and consultations

 - virtual classes (all of them from schools to dance lessons)

 - increased use of RPA's (robotic process automation - for those who do not want to sign documents all day)

 - development and industrial industries utilizing remote software ...capabilities to release and configure software.

 - all sectors offering remote support

With the above, those are not new innovations at all, those capabilities did exist before, but what it does open up is an avenue to change the manner in which tasks are done in the future as well as being extremely progressive. Well done SA!

There have been some notable advancements with regards to innovation within the medical field spurred on by the pandemic. New types of respirators, new types of temperature measurement devices, face shields, automatic hand sanitizers to name but a few.

Other industries have been rethinking their strategies but centered around ideas relating to the pandemic and of people fearful to contract the virus through touch. A fair amount of contact-less options have been developed and implemented and more yet on its way. Amazon recently have been approved by the FAA for their parcel delivery drones, so that is an interesting development.

The funniest and wackiest one I have read about was the social distancing pool noodles. Have a look at it below.

In the entertainment industry, Drives Ins are making a come back, but you have to stay in your cars and wear masks at all times. In essence then each industry has had to put some thought into this, in their attempts to get some stimulus going. However there is a long way to go yet before we have fully reached max capacity.

What cogs were turning for me?

As I did mention, I was rather busy during this pandemic working on some ideas and then executing on those ideas. I am happy to say that I have since put out two new products that are currently in use.

The first of which was for a Gym Trainer friend of mine, who wanted a more manageable way and scalable way to handle clients. Naturally, I designed for him and put together a fully integrated Scheduling App (Ionic-Angular PWA), that integrated into invoicing packages. Simple, easy quick.

I wanted to push some boundaries here and started the journey to integrate AR (augmented reality) into the gym environment. Now this is in the early phases, but the purpose is to assist people with a different gym experience, one that they could take wherever they go.

The second idea that I had was a vision system used for personnel management. Using image recognition to track people on a production floor for example. Using Google Vision API, and their stellar results, I was able to map in real time live positions of personnel using a camera. This then replaces the common RFID badges and common hardware to track personnel.

Either of the above are simple to execute, but what people do not realize is that even the simple ideas have large impacts.

Well that's it for this blog, as always if you need to talk about this topic or even want to try any of the weird ideas in your head, send me a message. Will be glad to help. But for now this is Yashveer Ramparsad signing out, Cheers.
